The day the official Inverness CT account won at Twitter

April 19, 2015

In our line of work you have to follow the Twitter account of just about every team in Scottish football. Most of them are completely mundane, some are infuriatingly biased and others (Falkirk) insist on spelling out every tweet with the caps lock on. Never do they add anything in terms of entertainment. Until today.

Somehow we failed to follow the ICT account prior to their Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Celtic. This mistake was soon rectified after some of their observations from the Hampden encounter appeared on our timeline.

If this kind of patter came from Celtic or Rangers there would already be a Buzzfeed article on it, but because they are Inverness CT that is not going to happen. But have no fear Caley Thistle, we’ve got your back.

Things started off ordinarily enough.

The Celtic opener, courtesy of a Virgil van Dijk pearler, was suitably understated.

Then he/she started to get warmed up. At first this tweet seemed like nothing out of the ordinary. Livingston are one such side who usually tweet out ever-so-slightly bitter comments when the team is losing.

But when they weren’t reprimanded by their boss/the Twitter gods, they began to grow in confidence.

And then the defining moment of the match happened and every tweet suddenly became pure gold.

Nevermind the penalty claim, the biggest injustice on the day was that last tweet only getting 582 RTs.

On a roll now, they continued with the manic updates in the second half, with Inverness soon finding an equaliser after Craig Gordon fouled Marley Watkins in the box. The keeper was sent off and Greg Tansey put the spot-kick away.

Some of the jokes were obvious, but we were in a forgiving mood by now.

Though it is entirely possible the tension was beginning to affect our hero’s sanity.

But they still continued to call it like it was.

The writer also mastered the art of covering up a horrendous joke with an ironic hashtag.

And then Inverness pushed themselves in front in extra time after Edward Ofere found the back of the net. The 10 men were well on their way.

But it didn’t last for long.

We were enjoying the updates so much by this point that we forgave the ‘could of’ (it’s could HAVE) grammatical error. Besides, losing such an important goal can affect anyone’s concentration.

With penalty kicks looming, Graeme Shinnie broke into the penalty area before squaring for David Raven to put Inverness CT into their first ever Scottish Cup Final.

Bless.

Damn right.

Well done to Inverness CT and well done to our hero. They both earned an unforgettable day out at Hampden in May.

Absolutely delighted for Caley. Best of luck to them on the day – fingers crossed they’re hoisting the trophy aloft at the end!
