Martin Scott’s Goal of the Season Contender

February 17, 2014

Those who watched the former Ross County midfielder play in the Scottish Premiership under Hibs may be surprised to know that “Jimmy” Scott has scored four times in the Championship this season. Limited to the role of midfield muscle helping to protect the back four while in the top flight, in the second tier he is continually able to impact the game in attack with an unorthodox and clumsy, yet effective, energetic style. Although, it has to be said, even those who’ve watched his improvement in more comfortable surroundings were completely gobsmacked when he pulled this out of the bag in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Alloa.

According to the player, speaking to the media after the game, this was the second time he’s done this in his career, stating a Ross County reverse match that was presumably watched by two men and a dog as the other example. Is it the best goal we’ve seen this year? Quite possibly, though he does face stiff competition from Brian Gilmour, Lee Erwin and Lee McCulloch.

Which lower league player would you like to see come out of retirement? And which boss is the next for the chop in Scottish football? This, and more, was discussed on Thursday’s podcast. Listen here.
