Show: Back to the draw-ing board

November 23, 2015

MIAThe Premiership is back! No need to worry about any pesky international break for a while. To celebrate that fact, Craig Cairns is joined by John Callan and Graeme Thewliss to discuss the weekend’s action.

There is the usual dissection of the six Premiership matches as none of the top three win – all three recording disappointing draws. There was more misery for Dundee United but Partick Thistle won!

Something which is becoming increasingly prevalent is discussion of Hibs and the Championship title race as the Hibees and Rangers are level on points at the top. Meanwhile, Raith Rovers’ self-destruction against Dumbarton provokes memories of (in)famous comebacks.

It was interesting you raised the point about Motherwell having few full-backs and numerous strikers. When he was at Aberdeen, McGhee decided to loan out Rickey Foster to Rangers, our only player who could be considered as an actual full-back, and replace him with Andrius Velicka who became the seventh striker in our squad alongside Maguire, Vernon, Mackie, Paton, Magennis and Megginson. This left us with a full-back pairing of 16 year-old Clark Roberston and 17 year-old Ryan Jack. It would be apparent that McGhee has a fetish for stockpiling strikers and an inherent hatred of full-backs.
