Punt of the Week

August 14, 2015

Even though we never managed to get around to it on Thursday’s podcast, that doesn’t mean our listeners should miss out.

Dundee to beat St Johnstone – 6/5

Consider a potential comedown from the post-derby elation before backing this one, but when you strip it down and look at the two teams and the kind of form they’re showing, Dundee look a better side at the moment and are certainly playing with more verve. They should also avoid a hangover as this is, kind of, a derby… of sorts.

Aberdeen to win at Motherwell – 8/11

The Dons have won three and drawn the other in their last four trips to Fir Park. They’ve also won 10 of their last 15 away matches in the Scottish Premiership. And, quite frankly, they are just a much better side, and one which should be refreshed having received their first full week off (well, six days) since the season began. Motherwell, without Stephen Pearson and possibly Wes Fletcher, do seem to be lacking a little spark at the moment.

Celtic, with a -2 goal handicap, to beat Inverness – 29/20

It’s about time Celtic gubbed someone, and why not start with a team who they’ve hammered at Celtic Park three times over the last 18 months? Especially when you consider Caley Thistle’s form to start this season. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous then you could push this bet out further and back the hosts to win by four goals or more at 7/2.

Dumbarton to win or the draw in their match at St Mirren – 21/10

Another punters may wish to take more of a gamble with, as Dumbarton to win is a massive 7/1. Though we wouldn’t be surprised to see St Mirren win this game, this is a clear case of the bookmakers giving too much respect to one team and not recognising the merits of another. The home side are a better side than Dumbarton, but not ‘Dumbarton at 7/1’ better. That’s the kind of price you’d get for Hearts going to Celtic Park. Also, this game has the interesting subplot of the away side playing the manager who abandoned them in the summer.

Dunfermline to beat Cowdenbeath – 9/20

Dumfermline look like they’re ready to be the Queen of the South side from 2012/13, while Cowdenbeath should be regarded as outsiders for back-to-back relegations. They recently met in the League Cup and Dunfermline won 5-1. The scoreline flattered Cowden.

Falkirk to beat Raith Rovers – 3/4

Some are tipping Falkirk to finish as high as third and they’ll want to live up to that billing after a disappointing draw at Morton on the first day of the season. There’s also the strong possibility that Raith’s 3-0 victory over Livingston on the opening day told us more about the Lions than it did about Ray McKinnon’s side.

Put £5 on all of that and you’ll win £354.46
